Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is used to reduce chronic muscle tension by using slower strokes with more direct pressure or friction applied across the muscles. Stiff and painful areas are assessed by the therapist, allowing them to determine the quality and texture of the layers of musculature. Specific hand positions and strokes are then used to respond to various tissue qualities.
Myofascial Release
Used to evaluate and treat restrictions in the muscles and supportive connective tissues (fascia) by the application of gentle traction, pressures and positioning. Fascia is a complex supportive web throughout the body affecting all components of the musculoskeletal system. It surrounds groups of muscle fibers, entire muscle groups and organs. Along with the muscles, it is also involved when a person suffers chronic pain or physical dysfunction. Myofascial release techniques are used to coax muscles in spasm to relax, and break adhesions in the fascia.
Trigger point release
A pain-relief technique used to alleviate muscle spasms and cramping. The therapist locates and deactivates `trigger points', which are often tender areas where muscles have been damaged or acquired a spasm or `kink' that worsens painfully when aggravated. The major goals are to reduce spasm inducing new blood flow into the affected area. Pressure is applied to trigger points for a short time (between about 7 to 10 seconds per point), which can be momentarily painful but is greatly relieving.
Therapeutic Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy massage focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body progresses through the dramatic changes of the childbirth experience: pregnancy, birth, and post-partum. Massage therapy during pregnancy can often relieve many of common side effects including back pain and sciatica, headaches, and swelling. After delivery, massage can speed up recovery, releasing the stress of labor, encouraging structural realignment, abdominal restoration, healing from C-section, and relief from the strain of caring for the new child.
Sports Massage
Sports massage is known for three types of restorative massage used for the serious athlete, and also very beneficial for the “weekend warrior.” Recovery massage focuses on recuperating from a strenuous workout or competition with no injuries. Remedial massage is for minor to moderate injuries addressing specific issues. Rehabilitative massage is for severe injuries or part of post-surgical intervention including general stress reduction and promotion of healing.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
This healing technique blends gentle, rhythmical, precise massage movements to accelerate the flow of lymphatic fluid in the body. It is a technique that uses lighter touch for edema or swelling of tissues related to illness, injury or cancer treatment. It is used for the reduction of fluid build-up, removing toxins, and strengthening the immune system.
